from Myths and miscellany: Some instructions: VII: Nightmares revisited
Christopher Arigo

New myths mean new monsters / new masters in a new medieval age /

icebergs calved from their frozen hearts

There is a machine called a republic that I can barely explain that eats work and / makes people suffer /

I scarcely understand

Are our bodies such defunct machines?

Mare: sea of threat / an incubus / a horse to carry you through the night.

Difficult to believe translates as dreams.

Haunted translates as at night.

[All italics are mine]

Dreams are machines / all omissions

Jokes are failed dreams / are mine

and space expands between sleeping and waking to accommodate them

and a machine loves you finally when it repeats one word over and over again enblued in its single burnished eye and again and again we are reminded of some half-forgotten myth

and machines have no loving grace / are unneutral
